Peony Doctrine
Statement
A giant panda cub stands dead center, painted with the hyper-textured fur of classical portraiture against a bubblegum lacquer pink that has no business working this hard. Lavender peonies crowd the frame like an imperial wallpaper pattern torn from a Qing dynasty screen, their petals rendered in the same obsessive fiber-by-fiber technique as the animal itself. Gilded wave forms sweep beneath the panda's claws, referencing Chinese decorative tradition without apology. The whole composition holds the visual grammar of a royal crest: symmetry, abundance, an authority that is somehow completely ridiculous and completely earned at the same time.
