Cruise Control
A teal-furred bear rides low in a Hawaiian print, elbow cocked against the window frame like the day already belongs to him. Banana leaves press against the glass in oxidized emerald, sky the flat blue of unbothered noon, orange juice sweating gold in a paper cup between his paws. Black lenses give nothing back. The whole cab hums with the particular stillness of someone who has decided, permanently, not to be in a hurry. This is what winning looks like when it stops trying.
