Lateral Ascent
Statement
A suited man rides a skateboard along the base of two colliding walls, terracotta salmon meeting oxidized patina teal, holding a burnt sienna umbrella that a bird has already claimed as its own perch. He moves parallel to a staircase he will never use, going sideways where everything around him insists on up. That detail, the bird riding the man riding the board, collapses three kinds of dignity into a single dry joke about how we carry our composure through completely absurd circumstances. Progress, this image argues, is mostly a matter of keeping the umbrella level.
